2021 Integrating Indigenous Perspectives and Communities into Dietetics Final Report

UM Food and Human Nutritional Sciences hosted a virtual Gathering in partnership with the National Indigenous Diabetes Association, including representatives from the Manitoba First Nations Diabetes Leadership committee, Registered Dietitians with First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, and faculty and students from the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences. We heard from a number of First Nations leaders, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers on topics ranging from traditional food practices, working with First Nations communities, and anti-racism in healthcare. This work has been summarized here and will guide the development of the Masters of Applied Human Nutrition program and ongoing enhancement of undergraduate nutrition education at the University of Manitoba.
