National Indigenous Diabetes Association

NIDA is a non-profit organization located in Winnipeg, MB, whose mission is to be the driving force in addressing diabetes and Indigenous Peoples as a priority health issue. NIDA is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and skilled person to act as Executive Director.

The Executive Director is the senior manager who oversees the organizational operations including: human resources, finances, work plans, partnerships, and advocacy.  The Executive Director reports to a national Board of Directors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s projects
  • Oversees the efficient and effective day to day operations of the organization
  • Prepares formal reports for Board of Directors and funding bodies
  • Maintains the organization’s established financial accountability,
  • Implements human resource procedures for operational staff
  • Researches and writes funding proposals
  • Provides leadership in accordance with NIDA’s by-laws, policies and procedures
  • Builds strong partnerships with funders, Indigenous communities, organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Communicates collaboratively / collegially with NIDA’s staff, members, board of directors, public, funders, etc.

Qualifications include:

  • University degree in business management or health sciences.
  • 3-5 years senior management experience preferably in an Indigenous organization.
  • Knowledge of diabetes and its impact in Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and contemporary issues.
  • Proven track record in organizational administration, work planning, negotiations, advocacy, public relations, evaluation, and fundraising.
  • Experience in all aspects of financial management including preparation and analysis of budgets and financial reports.
  • Experience working with charitable organizations and volunteer boards.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate in an Indigenous language is an asset.

  • Must have valid Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle.
